For most women, contraceptive pills are not dangerous. However, before being put on the pill, your midwife or doctor will ask you certain questions. They’ll ask whether anyone in your family has ever suffered blood clots at a young age or during pregnancy. They will also check your blood pressure before writing out a prescription. Contraceptive pills are only prescribed if there are no medical reasons not to, in which case they are not dangerous. Some side-effects may still be experienced, of course.
