To enhance Swedish public support for SRHR for all, RFSU raises awareness, builds engagement and mobilizes participation through social media and campaigns, attracting interest from the public, journalists and other opinion makers.

The Stroller March

The Stroller March is RFSU’s largest campaign to communicate our international work and engagement. The campaign’s main goal is to raise public awareness of the global maternal health situation. For example, every day the lack of SRHR results in 800 women losing their lives due to pregnancy, an abortion or a delivery.

The good news is that nine out of ten of these deaths could be prevented. This is a great way for us to talk about how access and rights to comprehensive sexuality education, contraceptives, safe abortions and maternal care can change lives and societies for the better.

Through the Stroller March, we aim to strengthen Swedish public opinion and hold politicians accountable for their commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals. In 2015, the march took place in 45 cities across Sweden, with around 4,000 people participating. The Prime Minister of Sweden attended, along with the Foreign Minister and other politicians from the government and parliament. Media coverage was extensive, comprising about 200 media clips.

Gubbelax

Gubbelax* is a pill that will cure people in power from contraceptive phobia and abuse of power. Access to contraceptives is important for the fulfilment of human rights and development. However, lack of resources and political will stand in the way of reaching people living in poverty.

More than 222 million women in the world lack access to contraceptives and the consequences are severe. One woman dies every minute due to complications during a pregnancy or delivery.

‘Access to contraceptives would reduce maternal mortality rates and save 79,000 lives a year,’ says Maria Andersson, Executive Director of RFSU. ‘Political will and resources are necessary to change the present situation, and that is why we have developed Gubbelax.’

‘Gubbelax will help politicians make the right decisions,’ Maria Andersson continues.

‘Every day 150,000 young women become pregnant unintentionally, which often means they find it difficult to stay in school and, as a consequence, can’t find a decent job and earn their own income.’

*Language note: "Gubbelax" refers to the Swedish word "gubbe", which could simply be translated as "older men" but often also means "older men who think they are constantly right".

Swedish Space Condom
The condom is one of the most important inventions for people on earth. This small little latex thingy might look simple, but it is extremely important in letting every human decide about their own bodies and their own lives. This is why RFSU, the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education, is trying to convince NASA to send the first condom into space: The Swedish Space Condom. RFSU made this film as an open letter to NASA to explain why sending a condom into space is such a great idea. Read more at www.rfsu.se/swedishspacecondom
