RFSU works with four organisations in Kenya.
Family Health Options Kenya (FHOK) provides sexual and reproductive health services in most parts of Kenya. In the project supported by RFSU, FHOK plans to focus on the Nakuru and Eldoret regions. FHOK will be advocating for policy makers to prioritise sexual and reproductive rights, and build teachers’ and parents’ (or other primary care givers) capacity to talk with adolescents about issues concerning sexuality and reproduction. There will also be a special focus on supporting LGBT sexual and reproductive rights.
Association of Media Women in Kenya (AMWIK) is an organisation using media to promote a gender responsive society. Within the cooperation with RFSU the focus will be to increase the knowledge about sexual and reproductive health and rights among young persons in Samburu and Isiolo. AMWIK will together with young people produce media shows that touch upon issues of sexuality and reproduction.
Centre for the Study of Adolescence (CSA). RFSU supports CSA’s work in the Mount Elgon District. The focus is to increase young people’s knowledge about their sexual and reproductive health and rights and increase their access to sexual and reproductive health services. CSA works with existing health care providers to sensitise them on the need to be youth friendly. The organisation also works with teachers in order to improve their capacity to speak with young people about sexuality and reproduction.
African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) is a regional organisation working to strengthen “African women’s collective leadership for equality, peace and sustainable development”. The project with RFSU will focus on starting a dialogue with local women’s leaders, cultural leaders and religious leaders. Issues of how cultural and religious norms, such as female genital mutilation, affect women’s sexual and reproductive rights will be at the centre of the dialogue.
