19 maj: Corona – a crisis exploited by populists
Möt aktivister från Polen, Malta och Ungern i unikt webbinarium om hur covid-19 slår mot sexuell och reproduktiv hälsa och rättigheter i Europa.
Coronaviruset har fått Europas regeringar att ställa om. Bara under de senaste veckorna har vi sett många oroande exempel på hur politiker utnyttjar situationen för att strama åt lagstiftningar som redan idag restriktiva när det gäller abort, hbtqi-personers rättigheter och sexualundervisning.
Bland annat finns nu ett lagförslag i Ungern om att omöjliggöra ändring av juridiskt kön. I Polen hölls en omröstning i parlamentet om att i praktiken totalförbjuda abort och sexualundervisning. Nu är det viktigt att bevaka utvecklingen noga och alliera sig över nationsgränserna.
RFSU har samlat aktivister från Polen, Malta och Ungern för att kommentera läget. Dessutom medverkar International Planned Parenthood Federations europeiska nätverk, IPPF EN, samt Center for Reproductive Rights. IPPF EN gjorde nyligen en rapport om läget i Europa vad gäller SRHR och här berättar de om resultatet.

Webbinar: Corona – a crisis exploited by populists
The coronavirus has caused a political chain reaction across Europe. In the last few weeks alone we have seen a number of worrying incidents of politicians exploiting the situation to clamp down on already restrictive legislation on abortion, LGBT rights and sex education.
In Hungary, a bill that would make it impossible to change one’s legal gender has been tabled. The Polish parliament has already voted on a bill that would result in a near-total ban on abortion and sex education. More than ever, we need to monitor these political developments closely and forge alliances across national borders.
RFSU has brought together activists from Poland, Malta and Hungary to comment on the situation on the ground, as well as the International Planned Parenthood Federation’s European Network (IPPF EN) and the Center for Reproductive Rights. IPPF EN will be sharing findings from their recently-released report on the status of SRHR in Europe.
