How we work
RFSU creates change by bridging the gap between practical experience and political advocacy. Our methods are rooted in a feminist, anti-racist, and norm-critical approach to sexual and reproductive justice.
Values that guide RFSU’s work
Our work is guided by the belief that sexuality is a positive force and that knowledge is the foundation for bodily autonomy. We focus on:
- Sexual and reproductive justice for all – We work to dismantle power structures and discrimination that act as barriers to bodily autonomy.
- Desire is at the heart of the matter – We promote sexuality as a positive, fundamental force for human well-being and health.
- Knowledge is power – We provide the evidence-based tools individuals and organisations need to make informed decisions and claim their rights.
- Democracy and a free civil society – We protect the democratic space as a prerequisite for fulfilling sexual and reproductive rights worldwide.
- Sustainable societies – We integrate SRHR into the broader framework of sustainable development to secure the needs of future generations.

Our strategic approach
To turn these values into reality, RFSU combines the following methods:
- Knowledge – RFSU builds knowledge and empowers people to know their bodies, sexuality, and relationships.
- Mobilisation – RFSU builds public opinion and mobilises people as well as civil society.
- Advocacy – RFSU contributes to and advocates for laws, frameworks, and systems, and holds duty-bearers accountable.
Our ideological foundation
Everything we do is guided by a long-term vision and values decided by our Congress. You can explore our full ideological platform and strategic direction in the governing documents below.
