Values and goals

RFSU is convinced that sexuality has a central role for many people, not only for individuals but also for society as whole. For this reason, we want to contribute to increased knowledge and openness on sexuality issues.

RFSU's vision is based on rights and freedoms. To be able to decide over one's own body and sexuality is a human right. Being able to decide if, when, and with whom to have children is a prerequisite for reducing poverty, and therefore increases the opportunity for a better life.

The starting point is the idea of that everyone should have the freedom to be oneself, to choose and to enjoy. RFSU wants to push for commitment and engagement around these three freedoms.

RFSU's international goal is that everyone's sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) are respected, fulfilled and protected.

We believe that it is possible to achieve through:

- Working with norms and attitudes in society — challenging prejudices and beliefs about sexuality and gender, age, economic status, disability and ethnicity.

- Challenging legislation and policies.

- Making available high quality sexual and reproductive health services, sexuality education, counselling and information. All health services training and information should be non-discriminatory and non-judgmental.

-  Co-operation with, and support to, civil society organisations is an important and fruitful way of strengthening SRHR for all. This co-operation comprises partnerships based on shared values, transparency and mutual accountability, mutual learning, autonomy and independence, long-term commitment and local ownership.
